Welcome to this week's Melbourne events, exhibitions, sports and
community guide.

This week... there's much ado about town and across Victoria with
celebrations covering everything from food and wine to music,
writing and even a bit of nudge-nudge-wink-wink with all bets off
during the more than risqué OzKinkFest. As far as food and wine
goes, there's the Toast to the Coast showcasing many a good drop in
Geelong while cows can breathe a sigh of relief as the World Vegan
Day Festival takes place in Abbotsford.

There's also some great music on the way with the Wangaratta
Festival of Jazz taking place along with the Mildura Jazz Food &
Wine Festival held over the long weekend - that'd be the long
weekend leading up to the race that stops a nation, the Melbourne
Cup.

While tempted to take a punt on the race of all races, I'll leave
it for another day just now. My morning began by discovering the
hot water system was kaput then later sitting down to repose
thoughtfully on what would politely be called "the white throne"
only to have the plastic freshener snap upwards like a riding crop
to hit me hard in the thoroughbreds.

Who knows, though, if the day picks up I might take it all as a
sign of good fortune and place a bet after all. You might even find
me at OzKinkFest, showered in cold water while being spanked with a
Toilet Duck. Hardly likely, but if there's one thing we all know,
it's that Melbourne's full of surprises.

Here are highlights from the latest newsletter.
