Welcome to this week's Melbourne events, exhibitions, sports and
community guide.
This week... there's a big day of entertainment at Fed Square along
with a good dose of common courtesy and common sense as White
Ribbon Day's celebrated with a range of performances, promoting an
end to violence against women and kids with the Not 1 More rally.
Frankston readies itself for a whopping electricity bill as they
switch on the lights for their very old Christmas Pine at their
annual Yule Time celebration, while Melbourne plays host to
Bikefest with a program of events highlighting the joys, benefits
and gravel rash of cycling - apologies for the cynicism, but I lost
many fingernails at 12 on a bike, and haven't dared pumped my legs
to carry my butt about since.
There's also the Story Festival for children held at Gasworks,
while the grownups can engage in a fairy tale of their own by
chasing their own happy endings come Voting Day for the Victorian
Election where yet again we get in a huff and ask Mum for more
hospital beds after Dad says he'll "think about it", while many
secretly wish we lived with those Aunts and Uncles at the Greens
where there's an eco-friendly swimming pool and solar-powered
Foxtel. It's a two-party system, people, paternal to the core.
Here are highlights from the latest newsletter.
