Welcome to this week's Melbourne events, exhibitions, sports and
community guide.

This week... it's that time of year again when Melburnians can
shake off some of their guilt and earn some brownie points with the
powers that be during Fair Trade Fortnight, supporting ethically
made products with events, tours and the upcoming festival day in
Federation Square.

Outside of Melbourne, everything old is new this week, with recent
additions to the festival calendar celebrating times and traditions
gone by. Ballarat Heritage Weekend celebrates the history of
Australia's oldest main hub with a great weekend of activities,
while in Stratford, the Shakespeare on the River Festival honours
one of the most revered wordsmiths in history, William Shakespeare.
He's back in the charts, and rightly so, now that all that Dan
Brown hype has long passed.

It's also Mother's Day this Sunday, when we honour those special,
lovely ladies who do so much for our children and ourselves day to
day, not to mention the family as a whole. So be sure to check out
our Gift Guide and treat those who deserve it to something nice.
That's not so much a marketing ploy as a heartfelt realisation,
having recently acted like an ass and needed to make good. Folding
washing more often in my own awkward origami fashion was a start.

It's quite easy at times to overlook how much there is on a
mother's plate, as there are so many small things they do that hold
so much else together. Truly, so many mothers out there are the
glue that binds, while men like me are more often like Blu-Tack.
And not the good kind either... more like the kind that has hair
stuck to it or maybe a stale corn-flake.

So it's here that I'll tip my hat to my own lovely mother who put
up with no end of shenanigans from me as a teen, my gorgeous
partner who brought the smile back to my own son's face, and to all
other mother's out there who make the world go round.

I hope you all have a very lovely Mother's Day.

Here are highlights from the latest newsletter.
