Welcome to this week's Melbourne events, exhibitions, sports and
community guide.

This week... the School Holidays get under way and, as promised, we
have our regular guide with a great range of happenings and goings
on to keep the children happy. Things are off to a swinging start
already with the Peninsula Easter Egg Hunt getting the hop on that
big chocolatey celebration.

There's also the Indian Vaisakhi Festival taking place at Sandown,
and let me tell you, it was an egg-hunt and a half to find enough
information (and the correctly spelt title) to fill the humble
paragraph you'll find here. Every now and then, an event comes
along that's as sparse on details as a toddler trying to explain
how a lamp was broken while you left the room.

As it turns out, the festival itself is a celebration of harvest
and New Year, as celebrated in India. The celebration also entails
a curious game named Kabbadi, which seems like an odd mix of
British Bulldog, Tag and Snorkelling too, I'd wager. Competitors
have to hold their breath for a considerable time while playing,
and how they referee such a thing, I'll never know. If it were up
to me, I'd tape little streamers below the nostrils just to avoid
any dubious shenanigans.

Anyhoo, along with whatever information I could gather I also
managed to come across what seemed like a suitable symbol for the
Indian Vaisakhi Festival, but as I said, it was like pulling teeth,
so apologies to any Indian readers if I've gotten the symbol wrong
and it means, Do Not Iron.

Here are highlights from the latest newsletter.
