 Welcome to this week's Melbourne events, exhibitions, sports and community guide for Tuesday to Monday, September 20 to 26. This week... It's all happening as the School Holidays rear up yet again, bringing with them the Royal Melbourne Show, the return of the Northcote Kids Festival, and a new addition to the holiday gaggle this year with Melbourne Circus Festival, celebrating 10 years of NICA. That's clown school to you laymen - no offence to all acrobats, please don't get your hula hoops in a bunch. For the more robust children who'd rather be known as teens, there's the Thousand Words Festival, also held in Northcote, with a program for budding young genre writers. The much more robust children who'd rather be known as adults can enjoy the return of Melbourne Fringe in all its boundary pushing glory. I feel duty-bound to give the elephant in the room a good spank and apologise for the fact that we have had some difficulties of late in getting the newsletter out on time. Anyone truly disgruntled by the inconvenience can indulge in a bit of Schadenfreude and take comfort in the fact that I was attacked by a magpie on the weekend. When I say attacked, though, it's a bit of a stretch. It was a much more laid back affair, what with the magpie landing heavily upon my head to spend a good few seconds deciding where to peck me. It was only for thinking at first that it was an uncannily balanced pine cone on my noggin that saved me from making a scene and wildly floundering in the street. It's not as improbable as it sounds... I just assumed that the pine cone had been to clown school. Be sure to check in next week for another dose of Schadenfreude after a disgruntled acrobat's kneed me in the Big Top.
