On a Mission

Sleep at the 'G

It's time to unroll your sleeping bags once again! Sleep overnight at the MCG and help end youth homelessness with Melbourne City Mission.

Every night, there are over 6,000 young people in Victoria aged 12-25 who have nowhere to call home.

Melbourne City Mission works with these young people through its homelessness services and supports them to move away from a life of disadvantage. Sleep at the 'G is an event aimed at raising awareness and vital funds to tackle the issue of youth homelessness.

By purchasing a ticket to sleep overnight at one of the world's most iconic stadiums, and inviting your friends and family to join or sponsor you, you'll be showing your support for Victorian young people experiencing disadvantage.

The night kicks off from 5pm. Grab your free cardboard box mattress, pillow and beanie and set up your bed for the night on the MCG concourse.

ANZAC Day

ANZAC Day Dawn Service

The 2014 ANZAC Day Dawn Service, marches and remembrance parade takes place on Friday 25th April 2014.

ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. The soldiers in those forces quickly became known as ANZACs, and the pride they soon took in that name endures to this day.

The 25th of April marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War.

The Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) presents DreamWorks Animation: The Exhibition \

Celebrating twenty years of friendly ogres and flying dragons.

The large-scale, behind-the-scenes exhibition celebrates 20 years of the studio's feature films and will showcase the four major film series - Shrek, How to Train Your Dragon, Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda - through concept artworks, illustrations, models and specially commissioned behind-the scenes interviews.

Other films to feature included the hand-drawn The Prince of Egypt (1998) and Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron (2002), and recent releases including Rise of the Guardians (2012) and this year's releases The Croods and Turbo.

This month (April) we are taking a potshot at..

USING A MOBILE WHILE DRIVING

People who think its ok to use a mobile phone while driving. If you make calls receive calls text or do anything else with your mobile phone "while driving" you are a bloody idiot and breaking the law not forgetting:

--> Risking your own life
--> Risking the lives of your passengers
--> Risking everyone around you

Its dumb stupid selfish and ridiculous behaviour that is breaking the law. Penalties include the loss of 4 demerit points and a $433 fine.

Gauging by the number of drivers flouting the law the message is not getting through. As John Faine on 774 Radio put it we need a visual message from one driver to another that it is unacceptable. Well here it is..

Mobile Salute

Let Melbourne be the first city in the world to stamp out illegal handset use in cars.

Drivers if you see another driver with a handset give them the salute.

Ask your friends and family if they do it and if they do give them the salute... embarrass them.
